The History of Article Marketing (Part 1of 2)

Article marketing has been around for nearly as long as
the Web has been around, even though the web certainly
wasn’t invested for marketing purposes! In the beginning,
back in the 90’s), people were very involved with sharing
information with one another. I recently read some place
that this sharing activity was sometimes referred to as
"the spirit of the Internet," and, to some extent, that
spirit still exists today. Mind you, it isn't always quite
as obvious as it was back then.

The Internet was configured for the free and fast exchange
of information. People wrote articles on a variety of
subjects, for the purpose of sharing information and for
educating others. Initially, there weren’t any article
repositories, as such. As a matter of fact, the newsletter,
also referred to as an ezine, came into play earlier than
article banks or repositories.

So, in the early days of the web, if you wanted to share
an article with the online community, you placed it on
your website, or in a Usenet newsgroup, or a newsletter.
Eventually, people allowed other newsletter publishers to
use their articles, and in this way the author’s resource
box was born.

Since articles had such an impact, well-informed marketers
saw the potential for writing and distributing articles.
They quickly saw this as an effective way to promote their
businesses. They began writing and distributing articles
on a regular basis. In this way, article marketing was
born, even though it wasn’t necessarily called that back
then.

The articles were formatted in much the way that they are
formatted today, except that html tags were not used. In
other words, articles were all basic text, just as many
are today. However, while links in articles are usually
hyperlinked today, they were not hyperlinked back then.

In case you aren't aware of it, when a link is hyperlinked,
the reader can simply click on it and visit the webpage.
When it is not hyperlinked, the reader must copy and paste
the URL into their web browser, or type it in.

Over time, marketers realized that copywriting skills were
valuable in article marketing. Those skills helped in writing
outstanding, attention getting headlines, and in creating
an effective author resource box.

The early articles were usually of very high quality, even
though marketers did largely write them to promote their
businesses. The "spirit" of the free information-sharing
internet was very strong!

All the best,
Laurie

What Is Article Marketing? (Part 2)

Hi Everyone,

Circulating an article can be a very time consuming task. A lot
of people outsource this chore, and pay for someone else to
distribute the article. Other people do it themselves, with software
that automates the process. However, many of the best article
repositories do not approve articles that are auto-submitted. So,
keep this in mind when you decide on how you are going to
submit your articles. In the end, the manual submission of articles
is always the best.

Basically, you visit each article website, either sign up for a new
account or log on, and copy and paste all of the information into
a form that is supplied for article submissions. A lot of article
repositories have a manual approval procedure, so it can take at
least a week before your article appears on the site.

Once you have submitted your article to the article repositories,
you may want to present it to newsletter publishers. I'm referring
to those newsletters and ezines that cover issues within your
niche. You should consider creating your own database of those
publishers. You will find them by frequenting newsletter directories.

Look first for newsletters in your niche, and check out whether
they accept articles. Then, you can load those article submission
email addresses into your autoresponder, and each time you
compose a fresh article, send it off to them, requesting publication.

Another step you can take, is visiting forums that interest your
target market. For example, If your niche is weight loss, you can
visit weight loss forums, and see if they accept articles. If so,
submit your article to those forums. If not, then simply put the
article on your own website or blog. You should still consider
signing up to those forums, because it is perfectly acceptable to
make a post and then mention in your signature, that you have
an article about the subject on your website. Make sure that you
also place a link in your signature, so that people can then go to
your website or blog and read the article.

Oh yes, one more thing, please make certain that your post is
relevant to the topic being discussed, and that it provides useful
information.

Finally, I am not a great fan of forums, myself. I find that they can
become very wasteful of my energy and too time consuming. So,
be careful of them, and always be mindful of your main purpose
and focus.

All the best,
Laurie

What Is Article Marketing? (Part 1)

Article Marketing is basically writing and circulating short
articles to a variety of outlets, including article repositories,
which are also called article directories and article banks,
forums, and ezine publishers. Article marketing is one
of the best types of marketing that one can do – it
is likewise one of the least expensive methods of marketing
a business. As a matter of fact, it can be free, costing you
little more than your time.

There are several benefits to article marketing. Because
articles become viral, your content virtually travels far and
wide, increasing hits to your website and increasing ezine
signups. Article marketing is also employed to make sales
and to build credibility. Anybody who wants to make themselves
an expert in their niche should make use of all that article
marketing provides.

Here is how it works. Let’s suppose that you are in the weight
loss niche, and you sell assorted weight loss products, whether
they are your own products or products to which you are an
affiliate. You compose a weight loss article, preferably one
closely related to one of your products – but you don’t want to
advertise the product in the article.

Rather, you want to address a problem that the product can
help to solve in your article – without adverting the product.
For example, if you sell a cellulite cream, you can compose
an article about what cellulite is, what causes it, and the various
ways to eliminate it. The article should be no more than 750
words, and have a compelling title.

At the bottom of your article, you include a resource box. This
is essentially a block of text, anywhere from five to seven lines
long. In this paragraph, you could say something like this:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John Doe is a weight loss expert who's assisted hundreds
of people to lose weight. You can find more useful weight loss
facts and help at his website, John Doe’s Weight Loss Secrets,
located at http://www.johndoe.com. You can discover specific
information at http://www.johndoe.com/cellulite.html .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you have written your article, and are sure that you have
made all of the points that you wanted to make, and checked the
article for spelling and grammar mistakes, you are ready to
circulate it.

I'll be back shortly with Part 2.

All the best,
Laurie

How To Cut Your Learning Curve By At Least 50%

(The Secret, Hidden Power of OMG Marketing That Saves You
Enormous Amounts Of Time, Money and Energy And Gets You
To Paydays 50% Faster -- And It Doesn't Even Cost You A
Dime)

Save this article for reference and use it as a reminder

By Marlon Sanders

I hate learning curves.

Because they take time and cost money. Plus, they're a pain.

What do you have to create?

* Banner ads

* Sales letters

* Graphic design

* Affiliate site

* Web site

* Ebook cover

* Upsells

* Downsells

* Ezine ads

* Google ads

* Blogs

* Facebook sites

Would you rather find the success you're seeking in 6 months or 1
year?

Which do you prefer?

If you want to do it in 1/2 the time, if you want to be on the 6
month program and not the 1 year program, then I'm going to share
with you three simple rules to cut your learning curve by 50% or
more, speed your progress enormously and get you the results you
want many times faster.

Rule one: You Can't Create From A Vacuum

I'm a writer by trade.

And the hardest thing to do is to write from a vacuum. If you start
and have no input but expect to crank out output, you're in a
pickle.

That's why when you write or create, you build yourself a fodder
package.

This can be samples of other writings, quotes, materials, articles,
web sites you print, books, pages ripped out of books -- anything
that will prime your brain when you begin the creation process.

Push Button Sales Letters

Rule Two: Always Have A Model

When I do consultations or the rare event where I critique items
for mmy customers, I notice a trend: Almost no one follows a proven
model.

They omit obvious factors used in almost every successful sales
letter, blog, banner ad, upsell, Google ad or creative you see
online.

This goes hand-in-hand with rule one. You can't create in a vacuum.
So build up a collection of sales letters and web sites you KNOW
work.

Then, when you go to create YOURS, make sure you incorporate all the
successful elements you see in the model or models.

I'm always taking screen caps of guarantees, headlines, page designs,
bullet points and order forms that I can use as examples on our next
project.

What you do is COMPARE what you're creating against your models,
your benchmarks, your examples in order to make sure that what you
create is up to speed.

I don't see a lot of people doing this.

What I see the vast majority of people doing is putting a small
amount of effort into the end result and not doing their homework.

Plain and simple: The people who succeed in this business do their
homework. Those who don't, don't.

But this isn't some arduous task.

You do it while sitting on the sofa watching TV and during
commercial breaks. You surf web sites and save good ones to your
hard drive. Or take a screen cap of the best elements.

Then you take your MODEL or MODELS and you print them out. Hang
out on a lawn chair or go down to your fav coffee shop and read over
them. Study them. Sink your teeth into the copy, the headline,
the psychology.

This is EASY work. It's actually fun. But it's extremely important.

Push Button Sales Letters

Rule Three: Make A Side-By-Side Comparison

After you create whatever you have to create, whether it's a banner
ad, sales letter, graphic design, web site, ebook cover or anything
else, do a side-by-side comparison.

Literally print out your web site, sales letter, banner ads, ebook
covers or whatever else it is.

Compare YOURS to your model or models side-by-side.

Look at the length, the size, the colors, the balance.

Ask others to compare the two and tell you which they feel is most
effective.

I see people creating sales letters, web sites, designs, ebooks
and sales processes without doing their homework.

It's no huge secret which sales letters do really well online.

Grab yourself one of those and compare it to YOURS.

"But Marlon, my widget is different."

This is why I have my Ateam calls. You can do your best then show
it to me on an Ateam call and I'll give you quick feedback.

But short of that, do your searches on Google. Find other web sites
you know to be successful and compare YOUR creation with what you
see.

My message today is simple:

* Model success

* Do your homework

* Make side-by-side comparisons

Typically, when someone asks me to critique their sales letter, blog
or web site, I can tell in 10 seconds -- they didn't do their
homework.

They worked without a successful model in front of their face.

WRONG!

You get your models. You stick them in front of your face. You use
them as fodder for your creativity. You don't blatantly rip off.
But you make darned sure you include the successful elements and
components. And that there's a modicum of resemblance in a side-by-
side comparison.

If you don't do your research, you're totally ignoring the immense
amount of money and time others have spent getting a model that
works.

Real world is this: 9 out of 10 things you try don't work.

That's real world.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is blowing smoke up your ying yang.

So do YOU want to be the one who goes out and tries the 9 things
that don't work?

Why not find the 1 that DOES work then use it as a model.

Now, blatantly ripping people off can be illegal, is in bad taste
and is NOT what I'm referring to.

But modelling and emulating is good. Finding all the successful
components or elements in something and making sure you use them is
GOOD!

People ask me to critique sales letters that are about one tenth the
length of any successful sales letter you can find at a similar
price point.

And they wonder what I think.

It's simple: I think the person didn't do their homework.

Do your homework.

Model success.

You have something that is NOT working, NOT selling, NOT converting,
NOT putting bacon on the table?

Start out by comparing it to what you KNOW as a fact works.

That's a very good starting point.

Compare.

Find the differences.

Make changes.

Test again.

"Oh look! There are testimonials here! Oh look! The bonuses have
more than one sentence of illustration. Oh look! The bonuses have
illustrations.

Oh look! There's a certificate for the guarantee. Oh look! They
have 10X the raw number of bullet points I have!"

Oh look!

See, that's the power of comparison.

It's called "Oh look" marketing.

And it doesn't cost you a dime.

"OMG (Oh My Gosh) their headline has numbers an specifics in it and
mine doesn't! OMG, their banner has a numerical benefit and mine
doesn't. OMG, this super power web site has a sales letter that
prints out to 25 pages and mine prints out to TWO!"

OMG!

If you do this, you will at LEAST cut your learning curve by 50%.
That means you can hit pay dirt in 6 months instead of 1 year.

OMG, their sales letter has subheads and mine doesn't!

OMG, their sales letter has a deadline for acting today and mine
doesn't!

OMG!

See, all those OMG's save you an enormous amount of time learning
them on your own by trial and error.

You don't need to reinvent marketing.

Marketing has already been invented.

What you need to do is to have the smarts to learn from others who
have gone before you.

I'll also add that the best investment you make is in your own
education, learning from those who have gone before you, tried tons
of things, cut out the 90% that don't work and share the 10% that do
work.

Hi,

Well, it's been a while since I posted to this blog,
and I apologise for the long silence.

I've been involved with a lot of things, and must
admit that I may be stretching myself a bit thin.
However, I do feel that I'm beginning to make
some progress with my online business activities,
especially in terms of focus, monetizing my sites,

In terms of list building, I've decided to become
involved with the "Massive Summer Giveaway"

for the summer. I've upgraded my membership

I must say that I'm excited about the prospects

Big Tickets Items, Events, and Membership Sites

Hi Everyone,

Well, I guess it's about time that I started making
regular posts again. I've been doing a variety of things
and ignoring this blog for far too long!

Anyhow, I've been amazed at the number of big ticket
Internet Marketing products, events, and membership
sites that have been advertised over the past several
months. It seems like everywhere I turn, someone is
pushing the next big thing -- the thing that will take
me to online riches and internet marketing heaven.

The latest craze is around the TurboBigBang event
for TurboMembership.Com, and, just today, I received
emails about StomperNet memberships being open
again.

Both of those membership sites seem terrific, and they
both come with lots of products and bonus materials.
However, when I discovered that StomperNet is charging
a membership fee of $797.00 monthly, I almost fell off
my seat! It should be terrific at that rate! Why, it
makes the monthly fee for TurboMembership at $97.00,
seem like peanuts. Is it really 8 times better than the
Turbo membership?

Anyhow, as far as I'm concerned, those astronomically
priced membership sites and other products are for the
wealthy and elite of the internet marketing world. That's
just my opinion. However, if you have the money, and want
to make a splash in the online business world, then go
for it!

I'll be back soon.

Best regards,

Laurie

Tahir Shar's "How To Avoid The Marketing Nightmare"

Hi,

Recently, I was reminded by a visitor to this blog, that
I had not written about How To Avoid The Marketing
Nightmare, as I stated I would in a post made way back in
August, 2007. Well, I now plan to correct that mistake by
giving you my opinion of the program.

However, I must state the following points:

1. I've only viewed one of the six videos in the program.
You see, I have a dial-up connection, so it's too time
consuming to download the remaining videos. I still
plan to do so, but from a connection at a hi-speed
internet access cafe, or when I receive high speed
service at some point in 2008.

2. Bonuses are included with the program. I won't
consider the bonuses in my comments, but will focus
only on the Marketing Nightmare program.

3. My comments focus on the six audios included with
the program, and on the PDF file transcription of those
audios. So, in basing my comments on the audios, I am
only reviewing one of the two main components of the
program.

First, let me say that I purchased the program at the
early release price of $97.00. And, you know what, I
was initially disappointed with the content. Why? Well,
I had purchased the program with the idea that it would
lead me by the hand, through the correct process of
setting up an online business.

In other words, I not only expected it to show me the
pitfalls of online business -- the things that I shouldn't
do, or the "Nightmare" -- but, also, to give detailed
step by step directions about how to set up an online
business. I don't recommend the program, if this is
what you are also expecting from it.

However, if you are looking to develop the correct
frame of mind for online success, this program will
benefit you greatly. It is inspirational and gives you
an excellent approach to online entrepreneurship.
Tahir Shah's presentation is very good, and will go
a long way to giving you the mindset you need to run
an online business. And, if you already have some
online experience, then it will guide you to the point
where you won't see yourself as a "newbie" any longer.
Rather, you will recognize that you've moved beyond
that status.

So, if you're looking to be led by the hand or spoon
fed in a step by step method for setting up your
business, this program won't take you there. Keep
your money, especially if you are on a low budget.
However, if you want an excellent presentation on
the correct attitude to online business, on the kinds
of actions you must take to be successful, on how
to communicate and market yourself to potential
customers, on sales tips and processes, for instance,
then this program will be good for you.

Of course, whether it's right for you also depends on
your budget, even if you are looking for inspiration
and the correct mindset to online business. I mean,
the course is now regularly priced at $197.00. That's
a lot of money, if you have very few dollars to spend.
Is it worth $197.00? Well, I can't tell you that, simply
because I haven't downloaded and watched all of the
videos.

I've personally benefited a lot from the course, especially
after listening to the audios for the second time. Also,
the PDF transcriptions are a nice benefit. But, I do wish
they had kept the "HOW TO AVOID The Marketing
Nightmare" banner off of every page of the transcript.
This wastes ink when trying to print off the transcripts. In
fact, for this reason I haven't printed them off, even though
I'd prefer a hand-held copy for casual reading whilst I
sip a cup of tea or coffee. :)

Was the program worth the $97.00 I paid for it? Yes,
certainly, especially when I have the opportunity to
download and watch the videos.

Finally, let me say that I am not an affiliate of the course.
You will not find an affiliate link on this blog post. This is
an honest, personal opinion, as I do not have a business
relationship with Tahir Shah. One more thing, I see that the
course is once again offered at the reduced rate of $97.00.
This is a limited offer, and there is a 60 day guarantee, if
you aren't satisfied with it.

My best regards,
Laurie

Google Search Engine Myths

Hi Everyone,

This is something that might interest some of you,
especially if you have a website, or are going to
create a site in the future.

Here is the promo about it:

"Google is like the Holy Grail of marketing on the
web. Rank well in Google and your profits are pretty
much set."

"But there is SO MUCH bogus information out there,
often coming from the "gurus" themselves."

"On January 9th, 2008, Jonathan Leger is releasing a
new f.ree report that completely obliterates the
following myths about Google (and then goes on to
show you what DOES work):

Myth #1: Google Knows All and Sees All.
Myth #2: Google Will Not Rank Duplicate Content.
Myth #3: You Must Get Links From Related Subject
Sites to Rank.
Myth #4: Your Site Must Focus On One Subject To
Rank.
Myth #5: High PageRank Means Good Rankings.
Myth #6: To Maintain Good Rankings, You Must
Add New Content.

..and..
MYTH #7: THE BIGGEST MYTH: Ranking In Google
Is Hard!"

"The site is in pre-launch now, but if you sign up
early you will get a sample chapter full of proof and
details."

So, there it is -- if you want to find out more about
the Report, go to the following link and sign-up for
your sample chapter. You'll also receive the entire

Happy New Year! Let's Make 2008 A Breakthrough Year!

Hi Everyone,

Yes, let's make 2008 a breakthrough year
in terms of online activities. I know,
personally, there are many things I plan
to accomplish -- many internet marketing
methods I hope to try.

I know that I haven't fulfilled my plans
as outlined in some of my prior posts. I
apologise for this failure, but still hope
to do some of them.

In any event, this blog is part of a
learning experience for me. So, you can
expect to see blunders as well as many
successes. But, there is one thing I
want to tell you: If you want advice or
opinions on programs or other online
activities, please contact me. I don't
bite, and I'll give you some honest
feedback.

All the best to you in 2008!

Bye for now,

Laurie
